Through the GCCA ACP program funded under the 10th European Development Fund (EDF), the Climate Support Facility has been requested to assist the UNFCCC focal point of Ivory Coast in training staff in the development of full-fledged national communications, with special emphasis on conducting GHG inventories and vulnerability assessments.

Ivory Coast has been a non-Annex I Party to the Climate Change Convention since 1994. Since 2011, a number of institutional reforms were carried out in the area of climate change. In particular, a new programme, the “National Programme for Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation”, has been established under the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development.

This request focused on capacity strengthening in preparing national communications, with particular emphasis on the currently recommended methodologies and tools for Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventories and vulnerability assessments that provide a necessary basis for the planning of further steps towards the implementation of the Convention.
