Sustainability Policy
As a mid-sized, office-based, company Prospect follows a model set of policies to reduce its environmental impact. This policy concentrates on minimising the environmental impact of its operations, primarily by restricting the use of office materials, energy and travel. As such, all activities of the company are implemented to ensure the integration of environmental considerations into its projects. In its daily operations, Prospect strives to act as a model office for good environmental practice and environmental protection in the work place. Thereby in all its activities, including purchasing equipment, food, supplies, etc., Prospect endeavours to follows the highest environmental standards by following these approaches:
- using energy efficient technologies (for office machinery and heating) and methods (using natural light where possible), and controlling energy use for heating by enhancing office insulation;
- the use of electronic communication and filing versus paper where practicable;
- purchase and use of environmentally friendly officer products (e.g. cleaning substances, office equipment, bulbs, recycled paper products) and building materials;
- only purchasing fair trade or locally sourced catering supplies (coffee, tea etc);
- minimizing of waste (e.g. the use of returnable bottles and the use of reusable dishes/cutlery versus plastic or paper ones);
- recycling (paper, plastic, metal and glass is recycled);
- minimizing travel by relying on ICT for meetings and allowing telecommuting; and
- by making use of environmentally friendly means of transport, (i.e. public-transport, bicycles ('bike-friendly office') and car-pooling) where appropriate.
Additionally, in-line with Prospect C&S's sustainability policy, we map the CO2 emissions of the company's activities on a monthly-basis by estimating the CO2 emissions of the travels of the staff and experts involved in various projects. The estimation method used will be in-line with the international standards for the estimation of CO2 emissions: ISO 14064 (2006) and the GHG protocol reporting standard (2004). Prospect C&S will take appropriate measures to reduce the CO2 footprint, and will compensate the CO2 emissions by investing in credible renewable energy projects by a reputed CO2 compensation organisation (e.g. the Climate Neutral Group ). The company informs clients how this was done in relation their projects.
